2015 Howard University Homecoming Fashion Show
I was chosen as the 2015 Howard University Homecoming Fashion Show Coordinator. It was an extremely amazing and knowledgeable experience. Below is the vision that we wanted to execute for our show. Our vision: "Fashion is not only used as a means of style and clothing, but it is also used to make a statement. Whether an outfit is modest or rebellious, the person wearing it is subconsciously telling a story about themselves. We want the 2015 Homecoming fashion show to do just that. Our goal is for people to not only remember the beautiful pieces of clothing they saw, but to really be moved by the emotion and truths that we infuse into the scenes of our show. By breaking the show up in four scenes, we plan to show the different aspects of African-American life and history. From oppression to African heritage, to Black excellence and urban cultures; we want to showcase the beauty of being Black in America. Additionally, we feel that it is extremely important to address the many issues going on within our race such as police brutality and more. Howard University is a breeding ground for Black Intellectuals. Therefore, it is up to us to keep taking a stand for our own sake. As young, Black creatives, we want to use this fashion show to not only tell our story, but to use it as our platform to make it heard." This fashion show not only taught me the art of creating but it also taught me team work, budget management, communication skills, event planning skills, networking and more. It was truly an invaluable experience that has helped me reach the next level in my career.
